Captain Mike Fuery is a long-time professional shelling and fishing guide.  His
books, “Southwest Florida Bay and Coastal Fishing” and “Mike Fuery’s Florida
Shelling Guide, featuring Sanibel and Captiva Islands” have sold out several
reprints and are not available.  Currently, he is writing a new shelling book which
should be out within a year.  He has an Associates Degree in Journalism and BA in English
Literature and has written number articles for Florida magazines about shelling and fishing.

For years he wrote a shelling and fishing column for the Islander Newspaper, based on Sanibel Island.
It was often sent to area island paper for reprint.

His charters have been featured in many magazine articles and numerous television travel
shows including National Geographic, Southern Living, Martha Stewart and numerous
in-flight magazines.

He has been featured in many videos for travel channels from The BBC in England, to crews from Japan,
Canada, France, plus many from various parts of the United States.  He often works with the
Lee County
Visitors and Convention Bureau, where they currently have a video featuring Capt. Fuery talking about
shell collecting.

“What I try to do with each charter, whether it be from a long-time returning charter, or someone on their
the first-time-out, is to show them the beauty of the upper islands, and in the meantime get in lots of
things about shelling, birding, observing all sorts of the nature of these lovely barrier islands.  The main
focus, of course, is looking for a variety of shells."

Living on the Islands for many years, Capt. Mike now resides in Fort Myers, Florida
About Capt. Mike Fuery . . .
“What makes shelling on these islands best is because you can only reach them by boat.  They remain isolated, but it
is important to get out early in the morning.  We do a two-hour walk, looking for shells.  Often, usually the Spring and
Fall we will be the only ones on the entire 12-mile island."
